Alumnae and invited guests attended the 128th Annual Business Meeting and Luncheon held April 22nd at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel. The theme, “Educate a Girl: Change the World,” promoted and celebrated the investment in girls’ education. We gathered and the fellowship was rich This year, attendees were greeted by a new addition, a spectacular new backdrop giving the luncheon a red-carpet ambiance. Opening the luncheon were words of praise for our Alma Mater from the Honorable Jim Kenny, Mayor of Philadelphia; Dr. William Hite, Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia and Joyce Wilkerson, Chair of the School Reform Commission. After our special guests’ greetings, the business portion of the annual meeting was officially opened. The travelers spent a few days in Madrid, and then they landed in Barcelona yesterday, accompanied by a parent chaperone, Mr. Ricardo Linero. Stationed overseas since 1993, I have been trying to find a way to get back and give back to our alma mater, so I was more than delighted to receive the group of eight visitors from Philadelphia at the U.S. Consulate this morning. The Communications Committee of the Alumnae Association is excited to announce the launch of three social media projects. Over the next three months, we will be introducing an interactive map, a social meme that will let the world know you’re a proud GFS graduate, and a monthly spotlight of an alum. “Where in the World” will add a visual highlight to a fact that every alum knows; Girls High Girls are everywhere!!! This interactive map will show our sisters far and close. Another project is a meme that with the theme “I’m a Girls High Girl…” When you see it, please add your special memories of what makes you a Girls’ High Girl. It was a beautiful evening of shared music, warm memories, and sisterly fellowship in support of continued music education at Girls High.
