Take the Challenge To Renovate Our Library

Our young sisters deserve the best!

Girls’ High afforded many of us the opportunity to be seen, to be strong, to be loud, and to be the smartest person in the room. This is still the case, but due to years of financial hardship in the School District of Philadelphia, the facilities have not kept up with the times.

The Girls High library has been closed and without a librarian since 2013. Its research materials still include World Book Encyclopedias and a physical card catalog. There is no access to digital books, electronic research materials, periodicals, and other critical technological resources to ensure that our students can excel and compete academically.

Despite our school’s successes and strengths, our students cannot effectively engage with their present education and prepare for life after graduation without a library and a technologically accessible resource center. We aim to provide a state-of-the-art library and resource center staffed with librarians so Girls’ High girls can thrive.

How Your Gifts Make a Difference

Your support will transform and staff the school’s outdated and currently closed library, creating a flexible-use, modern space for students to collaborate and pursue inquiry-based projects along with traditional library uses.

The Library Architectural Plans have already been created (e.g. images here). When you walk through the front door, you will see the “Featured Collection” section. It will be a tribute to our legacy with books authored by Girls’ High Alumnae or about them.

It will also include an individual study area, group project rooms, modern circulation system and a media wall to name a few.

Phase II Starts Now

Phase II of our Project: Our next phase of the project is to create the actual “architectural blueprints” for the renovation which is estimated to cost $300,000.

Class Challenge: To raise these funds, we are proposing a class challenge. Each of your individual donations will be attributed to your class. Class donations over $2500, will be recognized with various sized plaques on the wall depending on the level of donation

  • Level I: $2500-$5000
  • Level II: $5001-$7500
  • Level III: $7501- $10,000
  • Level IV: $10,001-$15,000
  • Level V: $15001- $25,000
  • Legendary Donor Wall: $25,000+

Classes donating above the $25,000 level will also be recognized on our “Legendary Donor Wall” and/or with a designation plaque for parts of the library (e.g. Circulation Desk, Media wall, Student Work rooms)

Your financial support for this campaign is needed to bring this project to fruition. It will modernize the space, update technology, and staff the school’s library. This is an investment in the future of young women in our community who will become leaders and serve our city, state, nation, and the world. Girls’ High alumnae continue to prove that our alma mater provides an exceptional proving ground for young women to explore who they can be.

We thank you in advance for your generosity and for keeping our Girls’ High legacy alive.
