As a new class of future leaders settles into the swing of things at Girls High, I’m reminded of the mission and goals of the Alumnae Association of the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Though they may not yet fully grasp its depth and scope, these women, upon graduation in five years, will inherit the legacy we’re creating now by example.
Again, I’d like to express my appreciation and respect for the enduring commitment of our leadership and active members. At a vibrant and productive Leadership Retreat last month, we were reminded that challenges are as much a part of our journey as they are part of the curriculum for this incoming class, so we’re neither surprised nor deterred. With fresh perspective and renewed focus we continue promoting, protecting and funding the priorities of GHS.
The inaugural GHS Picnic was a success! You’ll find photos from the day on our Facebook page. Also, exciting plans are underway for a fundraiser in November for the GHS Music Department hosted by Trinity Center for Urban Life and featuring former Music Director, Dimitri Kauriga, in a benefit concert. Please visit our Events Page for details on how you can support and attend this concert.
By popular demand, we’ll launch our new Alumnae Shop in October. We’ll begin with a limited selection of AAPHSG paraphernalia to gauge your support, and expand our selection as participation from our membership increases. Keep in mind that the Alumnae Shop is a fundraising vehicle. With ever purchase you make, you’re supporting the lifeblood of Girls High!
At Leadership Retreat we introduced our webmaster, Stephany Scott, who is responsible for maintaining and updating the Alumnae website. Feel free to submit fully developed content for AAPHSG news and updates along with your contact information to her at stephany@ghsalumnae.org.
We are all sisters for life in the Alumnae Association of the Philadelphia High School for Girls. This sacred sisterhood offers no guarantees of easy success, but it does offer enduring bonds of friendship and love from one generation to the next. Welcome future leaders!
Girls High Always,
Antoinette (Toni) Bailey Nottingham
