What Is the purpose The Winged Victory Legacy Tree?

The tree will be a visible symbol of the Alumnae Association of The Philadelphia High School for Girls’ (AAPHSG) continuous support of the school and our younger sisters.

The tree will have a mahogany trunk and branches and be populated with 353 brass leaves and 28 stones at the bottom of the tree inscribed with the names and class information of our generous donors.

Where will it be located?

The tree will be installed in the pink marble hallway.

  • Bronze leaves represent a donation of $500
  • Silver leaves represent a donation of $750

Who can purchase a leaf?

Any Alumnae, PHSG faculty member, or Graduating Class can purchase a leaf. Leaves can also be purchased by any person in honor of an alumnae or faculty member.

Can more than one person merge to purchase a leaf?

Each Alumna/Faculty leaf can only be inscribed with one name.  A leaf dedicated to a graduating class can be purchased by multiple members of the class. Note - groups purchasing for a class, or in honor of someone, must designate a single purchaser. We cannot tally for you.

What will be inscribed on the leaves/stones?

Each leaf must have the name of the Alumna, her class number and the month and year of graduation. Two optional lines are available. For those purchasing a leaf for another, one optional line can be used for words “In Memoriam” or “In Honor of”. Faculty leaves will include the faculty’s name, title (teacher, principal) and the years they served at Girls’ High School. Class Leaves will be inscribed with the Class # and graduation month and year with two lines of optional text. Each line contains 20 characters. Blanks spaces between words count as a space. The AAPHSG retains the right for final approval of all inscriptions.

How will the donations be used?

Donations will be used to support the on-going work of the AAPHSG. Donors will be able to direct their donations to one of four purposes that are described in detail on our website: General Fund, Capital Improvement Initiative, School support, Transition Program or Scholarships and Awards. Donors may also use the “Other” option for additional requests.

How will the AAPHSG know what I want inscribed on my leaf/stone?

You will receive a form to complete with your preferred inscription.

When will my leaf be added to the tree?

Leaves purchased by June 30, 2021, will be inscribed prior to the unveiling of the tree? Future leaves will be sent to the vendor in groups of five. Inscription takes 4-6 weeks from that point.
